PUNA COFFEE: FROM OUR HANDS TO YOUR CUP

"Crisp, delicate, complex. Deep, lush floral notes (plumeria perhaps), honey, roasted cacao nib, peach-like fruit in aroma and cup. Gently crisp acidity; light but very silky mouthfeel. Flavor quietly persists in a resonant finish."

  - Coffee Review, August 2014.

Surprising, exciting, delicate and complex—this coffee pleases everyone from connoisseurs to non-coffee drinkers. It’s a stellar example of the untapped potential of Puna coffee. Kazumura coffees—including our Kazumura Peaberry and Honeyed Yellow Caturra—showcase our obsessive (if not neurotic) perfectionist artisan approach in every step of coffee production. We execute and oversee all aspects of these lots to bring you the best coffee Puna offers.

KAZUMURA: THE NAMESAKE
Kazumura Cave is the longest and deepest lava tube in the world. At 41 miles in length and 3,614’ deep, it extends all the way from Kilauea Crater to the Pacific Ocean. Along its path, the tube passes through our 3-acre farm in Hawaiian Acres.

A few years ago, while exploring the tunnels of Kazumura Cave, we observed something strangely familiar in the smell of the air - something we just couldn't pin. After bending over to taste the lava rock filtered water, we recognized the familiarity: our coffee! As we thought about it, the flavors made sense. The roots of our coffee trees are submerged in the same mineral-laden rock that filters the rainwater. One mineral at a time, our trees are absorbing the Kazumura Lava Tube into their branches and cherries. And as you drink the coffee, you may be sipping on the same minerals laid by Kilauea's volcanic crater 500 years ago.

Truly a place with an energy all its own, we honor the rich, volcanic properties the Kazumura Lava Tube imparts on our coffee. We find it only fitting that our flagship coffee holds this moniker.
